This spring you can admire around fifty masterpieces by Frans Hals in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Due to his loose, impressionistic way of painting, Hals is seen as one of the most innovative portrait painters of the seventeenth century. The works in this exhibition are from international collections and are indicative of the lively, entertaining style that makes the Haarlem master so famous. Ready to meet Frans Hals? Register for this English-spoken lecture by arthistorian Carien Kanters at the beautiful Vrije Academie.
Beautiful canalhouse
The homebase of the Vrije Academie is a beautiful building on the Herengracht. Have you always wanted to know what a grand canal house looks like behind the facade? After the lecture you can explore the historic kitchens, and the ceiling paintings of Jacob de Wit. The monumental wooden stairs are described as the most beautiful spiral staircase in Amsterdam! Bar Vasari is open, there you can enjoy a delicious cappucino and Italian cannoli.
The exhibition Frans Hals is on display from February 16 to June 9, '24 in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
